The figures behind that score are low across the board. Homicide is 0.9 per 100,000, about 0.6 times the median for the cities we track, and recorded robbery is 0.8 per 100,000. Both rates are reported for the wider prefecture and were calculated by us from a count and a population, so they are not specific to the city itself. All four governments we track hold Japan at their lowest advisory level, in full agreement, though every advisory still notes pickpocketing and scams for the destination. In a national survey, 81.7% of residents said they feel safe walking alone after dark, a figure covering Japan as a whole that lines up with the recorded crime data.
