The safety picture

A plain-language read of the sourced figures below

Nicosia scores 93 out of 100 in our composite, safer than about three quarters of the cities we rank.

The homicide rate of 0.8 per 100,000 and the robbery rate of 10.3 per 100,000 are both low, but they carry heavy caveats: each is reported at the country level rather than for Nicosia, each was calculated by us from a count and a population, and each carries uncertainty in the population figure used. Robbery data also reflects only reported incidents. The four governments split on framing: the US and UK hold Cyprus at their lowest level, while Canada and Australia each apply increased caution. Their advisories name pickpocketing and scams for visitors. In a city survey, 67.6% of residents said they feel safe walking alone after dark.

The radar shows the three sourced, comparable risk measures (homicide, robbery, the strictest travel-advisory level). Tourist petty-crime signals are a different kind of measure — how often advisories mention them — so they are shown as rows under Tourist-specific incidents, not as radar axes.
