The homicide rate is low at 2.2 per 100,000, about 1.4 times the median, but the figure pools multiple years, covers the wider municipality, and was calculated by us from a count and a population. Robbery is recorded at 312.4 per 100,000 and carries several caveats: a definition that may not match other cities, multi-year pooling, coverage of the wider municipality, and a rate we derived ourselves. As police data, it also understates the true level. All four governments we track hold Portugal at their lowest advisory level, though each names petty crime and flags pickpocketing and scams for visitors. In a city-level survey, 67.5% of residents said they feel safe walking alone at night.
