The recorded crime figures are low and specific to the city: homicide is 0.3 per 100,000, a fraction of the median for the cities we track, and robbery is 1.2 per 100,000, though the robbery rate counts only reported incidents and understates the true level. Both rates were calculated by us from raw counts and populations. The governments we track split on framing. The UK holds Hong Kong at its lowest advisory level, while the US, Canada, and Australia each raise it one step to increased caution. Their advisories flag pickpocketing and scams for visitors. We hold no resident survey on how safe people feel walking at night here.
