Guadalajara scores 48 out of 100 in our composite index, safer than only about 14% of the cities we score.

Its homicide rate is 10.8 per 100,000, close to seven times the median for tracked cities, and that figure covers the municipality and was calculated by us from a count and a population, so individual neighbourhoods can sit well above or below it. Recorded robbery is 228.8 per 100,000, a municipal rate we derived, and since police data counts only reported incidents the real figure runs higher. All four governments we track put Mexico at their second advisory level, increased caution, with no disagreement, and each names pickpocketing and scams aimed at travellers. In a national survey, 41.3% of people said they feel safe walking alone after dark, a low result that lines up with the recorded crime, though it covers Mexico as a whole.
